Midwest Flooding Continues To Worsen As Days Pass:

Why this story isn't receiving more attention is beyond me. Look at it, folks, the photograph says it all. The flood damage is certainly nearing or on par with that of Katrina and her toll on the Gulf Coast. Yet there is no call for help, for donations, for prayers or assistance to those folks displaced by this incident. Nothing.

Iranian President Ahmadinejad Claims Assassination Plot:

TEHRAN,Iran (AP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday accused the United States of plotting to kidnap and assassinate him during a visit this year to Iraq, state media reported.

The hardline president told a meeting of clerics in the central city of Qom that Iran's "enemies" planned to kill him when he went to Baghdad in March, according to the president's Web site. Iranian leaders usually use the term "enemies" to refer to Western nations and the United States in particular.

The report on the presidential Web site did not specify the United States as the source of the plot. But state television reported that Ahmadinejad had "unveiled a shocking story"—that "Americans had intended to kidnap him during his trip to Iraq."

Ahmadinejad said the plot was never carried out because of "intentional" last-minute changes in his schedule during the visit, the Web site said. He said the conspirators learned about the changes too late, when he had departed Iraq.

I believe the word is delusional? Though one can dream...

Not very... Presidential. Look, they've all done the comedy shows. From Saturday Night Live to Jimmy Kimmel to John Stewart or the Colbert Report, politicians are reaching out to a whole new audience of voters. The problem is, all of this is going to be used to make them look silly eventually. John McCain was just having some fun and if he hadn't done this he would have been accused of being too stiff or not hip. Chris Matthews shoe-horned this into his broadcast in a clear attempt to mock John McCain as the skit is from 2002 - When McCain wasn't running for President.

The Media Is Trying To Start A Fight Between Wives:



This is the 12 second clip that the news outlets have been playing like crazy. Problem is, it's being portrayed as Cindy McCain attacking Michelle Obama for her 'finally proud to be an American' comment. Once again, the media is trying to create a controversy where there is none. As an interviewer your job, on some level, is to make news with your subjects. When Cindy McCain is battered over and over about Michelle Obama's comments she responds by saying 'look, I'm proud to be an American'. This wasn't 'Cindy Unleashed' as Drudge originally headlined. It was simply Cindy McCain saying that she didn't understand the reasoning behind Michelle Obama's comments because she's not Michelle Obama. It wasn't aggressive at all. Watch the entire interview and notice the edits before and after the money quote. You'll get a much different impression.

It's Certainly Man-Made But It's Interesting Regardless:

Another crop circle has appeared in the English countryside — and this one's clearly been made by someone, or something, that understands math.

At first glance, the strange ratcheted pattern, radiating out clockwise, doesn't look like much — modern art, perhaps.

But an electrical engineer from North Carolina — described by the London newspapers as a "retired astrophysicist" — figured out that it was an abstract representation of pi, the number at the center of Euclidean geometry.

The article says 'word quickly got around the crop-circle community'. I was unaware that such a community existed in any significant numbers but, hey, who am I to say what's significant. It's been proven time after time that these crop circles are man-made but that doesn't make them easy feats. I have to say, I'm impressed.

Obama Campaign Apologizes For Moving Women In Headscarves:

Two Muslim women at Barack Obama's rally in Detroit on Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women's headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

The campaign has apologized to the women, both Obama supporters who said they felt betrayed by their treatment at the rally.

"This is of course not the policy of the campaign. It is offensive and counter to Obama's commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton. "We sincerely apologize for the behavior of these volunteers."

If this was John McCain, the press would be going bonkers.

Jen Moss Seems To Be A Bit Of A Legend In Oregon:

ASHLAND, Ore. — A woman seen frequently in Ashland riding topless on her bicycle says she plans to be in Ashland's Fourth of July parade free and independent of all clothing but a hemp G-string. The Chamber of Commerce says that's contrary to the rules for the family celebration. She says she'll sue if she can't parade as she wishes.

Jen Moss has been known as "The Naked Lady" since she moved to Ashland in May from Ojai, Calif., drawn by the town's nudity laws. They specify only that people must cover their genitalia in a city park or the downtown commercial district, which means Moss need not cover her breasts.

The police in California, she says, harassed her when she rode her bicycle wearing a G-string and pasties.

Moss applied for an entry for the parade, which draws thousands each year.

The Ashland Chamber of Commerce learned of her coverage plans from an online posting. She promised to lead in-line skaters "wearing only a hemp G-string and blowing a conch shell."

"We don't feel that someone in the parade who is topless or nearly naked is appropriate for a family audience," said parade chairman James Kidd.

There's two ways to look at this; If I'm with a bunch of children, I'm thinking this is a public place and she shouldn't do that. Hell, if it was a guy in nothing but a hemp g-string I'd be pissed. So should there be a double standard in this case? If I'm hanging out with the boys and downing some beers, it's a fantastic idea and I'd be cheering her on.

Republican Officials Are Extremely Worried About This:

While a number of speakers -- such as Railroad Commission chairman Michael Williams and Mike Huckabee -- have praised the advance of Barack Obama and what it means towards a colorblind society, at least one vendor hasn't gotten the message.Obama Button0001.JPG

At the Republican state convention, a booth hosted by Republicanmarket was selling a pin Saturday that says: If Obama is President will we still call it the White House.

There were other pins that weren't necessarily conveying the positive, inclusive, united front that has been portrayed during the convention. One said, "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation" and another, "I will hold my nose when I vote for McCain"

The RNC has got to put a stop to this stuff as soon as possible.

The AP Story Went With 'Calls Web Porn Story Outright Lies':

Marcy Jane Tiffany, wife of 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Alex Kozinski, described some of the material stored on the home computer as raunchy and juvenile. Only a handful of files among hundreds had a "sexual aspect," but they were not pornography, she said.

"Alex is not into porn — he is into funny — and sometimes funny has a sexual character," Tiffany wrote in a nearly 2,000-word defense of her husband, posted on a Web site called patterico.com.

Of the several hundred files in the computer folder at issue, "the vast majority was cute, amusing and not in the least bit sexual in nature," Tiffany, a Torrance, Calif., lawyer, wrote. "The tiny percentage of the material that was sexual in nature was all of a humorous character."

The cache of material came to light while the judge was presiding in the criminal case against a porn movie distributor. A Beverly Hills lawyer who indicated he had a dispute with the 9th Circuit said he was the source of the Times article.

His wife claims he's 'into funny, not porn' but I'd like to hear her explain some of the files above. 'Camel Toe' at work, really? The man is a Judge and he's presiding over cases of censorship and pornography and he has images of nude women painted as cows on his office computer? Look, we've known for years about the endless problems in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Nearly half of all rulings in the 9th Circuit are later overturned and claims of judicial activism are common. Do they really need a problem like this? Judge Kozinski made a major mistake in storing these files on a public, work related computer and he should pay for it with his job. It's cute that his wife is rushing to his defense but she should probably arm herself with the facts first.

Al Gore Endorses Obama And Promises To 'Help Him':

FLINT, Mich. - Al Gore announced his endorsement of Barack Obama Monday and promised to help the Democrat achieve what eluded him — the presidency.

In a letter to be e-mailed to Obama supporters, the former vice president and Nobel Prize winner wrote, "From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected president of the United States."

In 2000, Gore won the popular vote but lost the disputed 2000 election to George W. Bush, who captured Florida and its electoral votes after a divided Supreme Court ended the recount. Since then, Gore has made combatting global warming his signature issue, and has been recognized worldwide for his effort — from an Academy Award for a documentary for his effort to the Nobel prize.

Don't you love how the AP worked in that 'Gore won the popular vote in 2000' line? Look, more of the same here, this will do nothing except tie Obama to old party politics and hurt his campaign. How can you push for 'change' whilst hanging tight with the old guard? It makes no sense. Then again, Al Gore never makes much sense.

Flood Waters Continue To Take Their Toll On Iowa:

Overflowing rivers in Iowa forced evacuations and disrupted the region's economy on Friday with fears of worse to come from fragile levees and more rain. Thousands were forced to leave their homes in the worst Midwest flooding in 15 years.

Here's The Trailer For A&E's 'Intervention' Season Five:

In the real world, there is no such thing as a typical addict. Never forget there's a story behind each person falling prey to the demon rum or drugs or any other of the known vices. Once the benders blur together and substance abuse takes over someone's life, the addiction becomes a social problem - lives are ruined and families are broken. Some lost souls never make it back to the other side.

But some make the effort, thereby providing the almost too-real human drama of Intervention (Monday, A&E at 9 p.m.). Back for a fifth season, the sobering documentary series follows the lives of people caught in the deepest throes of their addiction, and the attempts of those around them to put them on the road to recovery.

The addicts profiled on Intervention enter into the reality-TV experience under the semi-misconception they're taking part in a documentary on addiction. In most cases they're unaware their family and friends have planned an intervention, which is to be followed by either a trip to a treatment centre or immediate tough-love ejection from the family circle. For most of the addicts, it's their last chance.

The painful reality of addiction comes clear with Intervention's precise biographies of the addicts. Starting in 2005, the show's first four seasons have taken viewers into some very troubled lives - the ex-Olympic athlete who turned to methamphetamine, the alcoholic banker with a Fight Club fetish, the bulimic housewife who keeps a secret throw-up bag in the closet, and the former NBA superstar reduced to crackhead status. Watching real people unravel often makes for uncomfortable viewing.

There's been a lot of talk about the fine line between 'reality show' and exploitation, severe exploitation in this case, when it comes to this show and I think it's warranted. A&E is making a ton of dough off ad revenues as these people, and their families, crumble. There have been episode where alcoholics take to the wheel so inebriated that they can barely stand, let alone drive. The producers and camera crew do absolutely nothing to stop them. In fact, it could be argued that the cameras cause these people to go father than they would under normal circumstances. And what if someone is injured or dies as a result of an alcoholic's joyride. I can't lie, I'll be watching but I'm really torn over whether or not they should be so cavalier about it.

Luke Russert Remembers His Dad Tim On The Today Show:



I have to tell you, as decent and talented a guy as Tim Russert was, MSNBS is beginning to over do their coverage of his death. Candlelight vigils and unending coverage for a news man, however tragic his death, is just too much. However, I did find this appearance by his son Luke on the Today show this morning quite moving. UK Paper Tracks Down The #4 Most Wanted Nazi War Criminal:

MINGLING with football fans in a pavement café, an elderly gentleman soaks up the atmosphere of Euro 2008.

Yet Milivoj Asner, out strolling with his wife, is no ordinary supporter welcoming his national side Croatia to his adopted Austrian town.

At No 4 on the list of most wanted Nazi war criminals, he instead stands accused of deporting hundreds of Jews, gypsies and Serbs to World War II death camps.

And he has been spared extradition only after Austrian officials insisted he was too poorly to face charges in Croatia of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

Asner, who lives under an assumed name in Croatia’s European Championships base of Klagenfurt, is the subject of an international arrest warrant and on Interpol’s Most Wanted list.

The Sun tracked down the 95-year-old former police chief and Gestapo agent and secretly filmed him as he strolled confidently for more than a mile, arm-in-arm with second wife Edeltraut.

Walking without a stick, he even roamed 8th May Street – named after VE Day.

He certainly looks fit enough to stand trial for his horrific crimes.

Police Kill California Man Who Stomped Baby to Death:

The suspect had a child's car seat in the back of his four-door pickup truck. The truck caught the attention of an elderly couple at 10:13 p.m. Saturday because it was stopped in the two-lane road facing the wrong direction, Singh said.

As they got closer, the couple saw the man brutally beating the toddler behind his truck and throwing the child on the ground, according to Singh. Two or three other cars stopped, an unusual number to be passing through the remote area surrounded by a dairy, a cow pasture, a cornfield and a farmhouse, he said.

"What we got from witnesses is he was punching, slapping, kicking, stomping, shaking," Singh said. "They tried to intervene and get involved, but their efforts really didn't have an effect. The suspect was engaged in what he was doing. He just pushed them off and went back to it."

A sheriff's helicopter responding to emergency calls from the area landed in a cow pasture at 10:19 p.m. carrying a Modesto police officer who shot the man to death after he refused an order to stop beating the child, Singh said.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the toddler, who was not breathing when they arrived. The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Death seems like too good of an ending for this guy. What would posses someone to do something so disturbing and heartless? One person tried to intervene but was pushed off by the man who continued to pummel the toddler. I'm sure this is a lot easier to say after the fact but, if this man was unarmed, a 'push' would not stop me from putting an end to this scene.

At 58, Russert Collapses At NBC's News Bureau:

Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.

In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

The industry is quite obviously in shock as no one saw this coming. Russert was actually recording promotional clips for Meet the Press when he had this fatal heart attack. He was an amazingly influential figure in the political world. Meet the Press will never be the same.

He will be missed...

A Woman In Taiwan Is Set For Surgery On Her Massive Legs:

An upcoming surgery in Taiwan may end the suffering of a young Chinese woman who has been unable to leave her house for nearly 20 years because of a rare condition known as elephantiasis, Agence France-Presse reported Friday.

Wang Cheng, 24, who lives in the eastern Chinese province of Zhiangsu, has not left her house or worn pants since she was 6 years old because the condition has caused her legs to deform and triple in size.

Her legs have swelled to 110 pounds, but the free surgery planned for Monday may alleviate the swelling by cutting away lymphatic tissue.

She looks absolutely miserable in those photos. Cross your fingers.

John McCain's Daughter Goes Republican For Father's Day:

As some of you may know, I have been registered as an Independent since I was 18 years old. However, after careful thought and consideration, I recently decided to change my political party affiliation. This morning, I went to the State Capitol Executive Building in Phoenix with Mom and re-registered as a Republican. I did this as a symbol of my commitment to my dad and to represent the faith I have in his ability to be an effective leader for our country and to grow and strengthen the Republican party when he is elected President of the United States. Happy Father's Day, Dad!

Seems like a bizarre present to me but she had to do it eventually. What better day to switch parties than Father's Day?
