Police Kill California Man Who Stomped Baby to Death:

The suspect had a child's car seat in the back of his four-door pickup truck. The truck caught the attention of an elderly couple at 10:13 p.m. Saturday because it was stopped in the two-lane road facing the wrong direction, Singh said.

As they got closer, the couple saw the man brutally beating the toddler behind his truck and throwing the child on the ground, according to Singh. Two or three other cars stopped, an unusual number to be passing through the remote area surrounded by a dairy, a cow pasture, a cornfield and a farmhouse, he said.

"What we got from witnesses is he was punching, slapping, kicking, stomping, shaking," Singh said. "They tried to intervene and get involved, but their efforts really didn't have an effect. The suspect was engaged in what he was doing. He just pushed them off and went back to it."

A sheriff's helicopter responding to emergency calls from the area landed in a cow pasture at 10:19 p.m. carrying a Modesto police officer who shot the man to death after he refused an order to stop beating the child, Singh said.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the toddler, who was not breathing when they arrived. The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Death seems like too good of an ending for this guy. What would posses someone to do something so disturbing and heartless? One person tried to intervene but was pushed off by the man who continued to pummel the toddler. I'm sure this is a lot easier to say after the fact but, if this man was unarmed, a 'push' would not stop me from putting an end to this scene.

At 58, Russert Collapses At NBC's News Bureau:

Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.

In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

The industry is quite obviously in shock as no one saw this coming. Russert was actually recording promotional clips for Meet the Press when he had this fatal heart attack. He was an amazingly influential figure in the political world. Meet the Press will never be the same.

Twenty-Five Year Old Japanese Man Arrested After Massacre:

TOKYO -- A lone attacker rammed a truck into pedestrians, then slashed his way with a survival knife through Sunday shopping crowds in one of Tokyo's most popular neighborhoods, killing seven people and wounding 10.

Police quoted Tomohiro Kato, 25, as saying he came to the Akihabara district, a canyon of computer and electronics stores, vowing to "kill people."

"I am tired of the world," the part-time worker in an auto parts plant reportedly told police after his arrest. "Anyone was OK."

Kato reportedly drove a rented 2-ton truck from his hometown of Susono, about 60 miles southwest of Tokyo, arriving in Akihabara around noon. The area, renowned as the center of Japan's anime and manga culture, is particularly clogged with shoppers on Sundays when its streets are closed to vehicles for "Pedestrian Paradise Day."

The assailant plowed the truck through a major intersection, knocking down at least three people before striking a taxi and stopping. Witnesses said the attacker then fled the damaged vehicle, furiously stabbing one of the injured pedestrians and a policeman who came to the aid of the victims.

He then bolted down a side street, stabbing others as he went and triggering confusion as thousands of shoppers surged to either escape the rampage or to get a closer look. Television footage showed the intersection littered with sneakers and bloody clothing.

The dead were six men ages 19 to 74 and a 21-year-old woman. A policeman ended the frenzy by knocking the knife from the attacker's hands with a nightstick. But the assailant did not surrender until the officer drew his gun. Video posted on Japanese websites showed a man identified as Kato, wearing a black T-shirt under a white suit and bleeding slightly from a head wound, with his hands raised. It then showed the policeman pushing him into a fetal position against a wall and sitting on his legs while using his radio to call for help.

So many disturbing details in those few paragraphs. Kato isn't the first freak to blog about a massacre and he won't be the last.

I don't think I need to tell you what happened there. The most bizarre thing is this guy wasn't even arrested. He was simply thrown out of the store. Imagine the poor sap that had to clean up after that?

These Jaw Dropping Photos Were Snapped In Mexico Sunday:

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) — A car has plowed into a bike race along a highway near the US-Mexico border, killing one and injuring 10 others.

Police investigator Jose Alfredo Rodriguez says the 28-year-old driver was apparently drunk and fell asleep when he crashed into the race.

A photograph taken by a city official shows bicyclists and equipment being hurled high in to the air by the collision.

Rodriguez says Juan Campos was charged with killing Alejandro Alvarez, 37, of Monterrey.

Authorities say the wreck happened 15 minutes into the race along a highway between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros.

Campos says he is an American citizen living in Brownsville, Texas. U.S. consulate spokesman Todd Huizinga said officials were looking into whether Americans were involved.

That has to be, hands down, the most painful photo ever.

Padres Pitcher Chris Young Takes A Line Drive To The Face:

SAN DIEGO -- Padres pitcher Chris Young left Wednesday's game in the third inning after being hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols.

Young was taken to Scripps Green Hospital in nearby Torrey Pines with a nasal fracture and a laceration on his nose.

Young sat on the ground for several minutes while being attended to by the team training staff and was able to walk off the field on his own, though he was accompanied by teammate Tony Clark and trainer Todd Hutcheson.

The sound of the ball hitting his face is excruciating...

Columbia Police Overpower Ex-Military Man With Grenade:

BOGOTA (AFP) — Police in Colombia overpowered a man armed with a grenade and freed the two dozen people he was holding, bringing a tense hostage drama to an end, authorities said Wednesday.

The man had held police at bay at a downtown Bogota office building, demanding that media be brought to the scene, and asking to meet with Mexico's ambassador to Colombia, so that he could make a request for asylum.

"My name is Edgar Paz Morales. I am a man who has fought for my country, but now it doesn't doesn't even acknowledge me," the former military man told Colombian radio, saying that he shared this plight with other former members of the country's armed services.

Thankfully, no one was injured. Edgar Paz Morales is now in jail.

Action Taken After Soldier's Father Posts This Shocking Video:

(CNN) -- The U.S. military is promising action to address conditions in a barracks at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, after a soldier's father posted images on YouTube showing a building that he said "should be condemned."

"This is embarrassing. It's disgusting. It makes me mad as hell," Ed Frawley said of the building where his son, Sgt. Jeff Frawley, had to live upon his return this month from a 15-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Frawley said Monday that Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Dick Cody called him to say he shares Frawley's anger and that "there's no excuse." Cody said he would not want his own sons or any troops to return to such conditions, Frawley said.

Frawley's 10-minute video shows still photos from throughout the building, which appears to be falling apart and filled with mold and rust.

I'm with you Ed. This is unacceptable. If our soldiers are willing to put their lives on the live to defend this country the least we can do is provide them with decent lodgings. Three inches of sewage water is not only disgusting, it's downright dangerous. Let's hope this video is the spark needed to clean up Fort Bragg. If it isn't, the army may just have another Walter Reed scandal on their hands.

Shock Photos: Acid Attacks Rise Sharply In South Asia:

"This is another form of violence against women, and the patriarchal values that exist in societies are responsible for this horrific form of atrocity," Sushma Varma, the head of the campaign, better known as CSAAW, tells ABC News.

In Indian society there are multiple systematic ways in which women have become the targets of violence, from the burning of widows to the widespread aborting of female fetuses.

But acid is common here. Many Indians use it to clean their kitchens and bathrooms instead of bleach, and that's why it has become a weapon.

These attacks aren't just limited to Asia. Acid attacks have become more widespread in places like London, England and even here in the United States. In South Asia the attacks focus mostly on young women in Islamic neighborhoods. Early this year two Turkish girls were attacked by a group of Muslim men for wearing short skirts. The girls suffered severe burns and were rushed to the hospital. In Bangladesh, a 24-year-old man was sentenced to death after an acid attack on his 9-year-old wife left her severely disfigured and blinded for life. This is a disturbing trend and it's something I'm going to keep my eye on. Beyond being disturbing, it often goes unpunished.
