Iran President Claims U.S. Death Plot

Iranian President Ahmadinejad Claims Assassination Plot:

iran president

TEHRAN,Iran (AP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday accused the United States of plotting to kidnap and assassinate him during a visit this year to Iraq, state media reported.

The hardline president told a meeting of clerics in the central city of Qom that Iran's "enemies" planned to kill him when he went to Baghdad in March, according to the president's Web site. Iranian leaders usually use the term "enemies" to refer to Western nations and the United States in particular.

The report on the presidential Web site did not specify the United States as the source of the plot. But state television reported that Ahmadinejad had "unveiled a shocking story"—that "Americans had intended to kidnap him during his trip to Iraq."

Ahmadinejad said the plot was never carried out because of "intentional" last-minute changes in his schedule during the visit, the Web site said. He said the conspirators learned about the changes too late, when he had departed Iraq.

I believe the word is delusional? Though one can dream...

Bolton Evades 'Citizens Arrest'

Security Stopped The Moron Before He Got To Bolton:

John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, has escaped an attempted citizen's arrest as he appeared at the Hay Festival.

Security guards blocked the path of columnist and activist George Monbiot, who tried to make the arrest as Mr Bolton left the stage.

The former ambassador - a key advisor to President George W Bush who argued strongly in favour of invading Iraq - had been giving a talk on international relations to more than 600 people at the literary festival.

Mr Monbiot was blocked by two heavily-built security guards at the end of the one-and-a-half hour appearance, before he could serve a "charge sheet" on him.

After being released by the guards the columnist - a fierce critic of the 2003 American-led invasion - made a dash through the rain-soaked tented village in a failed attempt to catch up with Mr Bolton.

A crowd of about 20 protestors, one dressed in a latex George Bush mask, chanted "war criminal" as Mr Bolton was ushered away.

Mr Monbiot said moments later he was "disappointed" that he had been blocked from making the citizen's arrest.

"This was a serious attempt to bring one of the perpetrators of the Iraq war to justice, for what is described under the Nuremberg Principles as an international crime," he said.

Rest easy my friends, John Bolton will live to breathe free air tomorrow. Some moron (identified above as MORON) attempted to debate John Bolton (identified above as JOHN BOLTON) during his speech. Bolton said it wasn't only his opinion that the war in Iraq was legal but it was the opinion of the entire legal apparatus of the U.S. government. George Monbiot (see: MORON) then called Bolton a Nazi and was on his way. Event organizers contacted their legal representation to ask them about the 'citizens arrest' and they were informed, much to their chagrin, that it was, in fact, completely unlawful. The third photo (see: BUSH MASK GUY) is a lovely snapshot of a fellow-citizens arrestor in a Bush mask. You stay classy Wales.

Bolton Facing 'Citizens Arrest'

The Former U.S. Ambassador To The United Nations Is In Wales:

john bolton

John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, faces a citizen's arrest when he addresses an audience at the Hay Festival in Wales this evening.

George Monbiot, the journalist and activist, is planning the action because he believes Mr Bolton is a "war criminal".

He said he was surprised that Mr Bolton would be allowed to "swim through the politest of polite soirees – which is of course Hay."

Mr Bolton, who was the American ambassador to the UN from August 2005 to January 2006, is due to talk at the Hay-on-Wye literary festival at 6.30pm on international relations.

Alright, let's iron this one out in real-time. Currently, as I type this, it's 4:20PM in Wales so we've got about 2 hours to go. Now on to the event, this Hay-on-Wye festival that Bolton has, for some unknown reason, agreed to speak at is an anti-American jamboree. Jimmy Carter was also invited and pressed at length on whether or not he thought George Bush was a war criminal. The crowd became giddy and excited as Carter said that Bush would likely live out a 'peaceful, productive life in our country'. Why? Because they figured he was hinting that international prosecution may be possible. Sounds like a great place for John Bolton to speak, right?

The reporter who is planning on performing a 'citizens arrest' on Bolton works for the UK Guardian. His name is George Monbiot and he's clearly desperate for attention. He's calling for others at this event to join him as he attempts to detain John Bolton and charge him with war crimes.

Section 24A of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 permits any citizen to "arrest without a warrant ... anyone whom he has reasonable grounds for suspecting to be guilty" of an offence.

I do not want to advocate something I am not prepared to do myself. I was planning to stay at home on Wednesday, but I now intend to come back, listen to Mr Bolton speak, and then carry out this arrest. I hope that others at Hay might join me.

Moonbiot is a radical on both political and environmental issues and there's a decent chance that he will cause a scene in less than two hours, possibly leading to some kind of low-scale international incident. There's also a solid chance that the creators of this festival, who pledge a 'safe and free' environment for all speakers are likely to let this whole fiasco go down to get some much needed press before the event wraps up this weekend. The idea that he's 'surprised' that Bolton would be allowed to speak at the festival is an outright joke as he lobbied for the appearance. The guy's out of his mind...

Less than two hours away from the speech now and there's no telling what will happen. I'll be watch the wires and keep you in the loop.

Mexican Official Steals BlackBerries

Mexican Official Was Nabbed Stealing White House BlackBerries:

news junkie

Sources with knowledge of the incident said the official, Rafael Quintero Curiel, served as the lead press advance person for the Mexican Delegation and was responsible for handling logistics and guiding the Mexican media around at the conference. He took six or seven of the handheld devices from a table outside a special room in the hotel where the Mexican delegation was meeting with President Bush earlier this week.

Everyone entering the room was required to leave his or her cell phone, BlackBerry and other such devices on the table, a common practice when high-level meetings are held. American officials discovered their missing belongings when they were leaving the session.

It didn't take long before Secret Service officials reviewed videotape taken by a surveillance camera and found footage showing Quintero Curiel absconding with the BlackBerries.

He didn't pick those phones up to be nice, he denied having them at the airport. And just what was this Mexican officials response when he was cornered with the evidence clearly showing his crime? 'Diplomatic Immunity!' Odds are he'll face no punishment in Mexico.
