Death By Rotten-Egg-Gas

A Deadly New Fad Among Teens Is Taking Japan By Storm:

news junkie

DEATH by rotten-egg gas, Japan's latest suicide fad, appears to have claimed 10 lives this week including a 14-year-old girl.

The schoolgirl's mother and two other people were treated in hospital on Wednesday after their apartment filled with noxious hydrogen sulphide fumes produced by combining two common chemical products, a toilet cleaner and a brand of bath salts.

About 60 other people in the apartment building, in Konan City on Shikoku island, reported milder illness from inhaling the fumes, called rotten-egg gas for its pungent odour.

Jesus. Word is, these kids are getting the idea from Internet message boards who advertise the bizarre form of suicide as 'quick and painless.' Except for the smell, I guess. In this case, the girl posted a note on her door saying 'poisonous gas being produced' inside. Between this and all of the English teens hanging themselves in one neighborhood, I don't know which is most disturbing.

Acid Attacks On The Rise In Asia

Shock Photos: Acid Attacks Rise Sharply In South Asia:

"This is another form of violence against women, and the patriarchal values that exist in societies are responsible for this horrific form of atrocity," Sushma Varma, the head of the campaign, better known as CSAAW, tells ABC News.

In Indian society there are multiple systematic ways in which women have become the targets of violence, from the burning of widows to the widespread aborting of female fetuses.

But acid is common here. Many Indians use it to clean their kitchens and bathrooms instead of bleach, and that's why it has become a weapon.

These attacks aren't just limited to Asia. Acid attacks have become more widespread in places like London, England and even here in the United States. In South Asia the attacks focus mostly on young women in Islamic neighborhoods. Early this year two Turkish girls were attacked by a group of Muslim men for wearing short skirts. The girls suffered severe burns and were rushed to the hospital. In Bangladesh, a 24-year-old man was sentenced to death after an acid attack on his 9-year-old wife left her severely disfigured and blinded for life. This is a disturbing trend and it's something I'm going to keep my eye on. Beyond being disturbing, it often goes unpunished.

New Trend: Egg Cocktails

The Egg Cocktail Trend Is Taking New York City By Storm:

egg cocktails

At Olana, a restaurant that opened on Madison Avenue in February, two of the restaurant’s seven signature cocktails feature eggs: the Pear Sidecar, in which egg whites meet pear brandy, and the Apricot Cobbler, a similar drink featuring apricot brandy. A recent addition to the cocktail list at A Voce, a flatiron district restaurant, is the Agrumi Fizz, in which a mix of gin, limoncello, orange liqueur, and egg whites gets topped with a float of Chianti.

And Julie Reiner, who gained fame with her drinks at the Flatiron Lounge, is branching into Brooklyn with the Clover Club, expected to open next month, a bar so devoted to egg-based cocktails that it’s named after one.

Why all the eggs? “They blend the drink, and add body to it,” said Alki Stathopoulos, the general manager of Kellari Taverna in Midtown. A hard-shaken egg white adds foamy texture to a cocktail.

I'm a big fan of a night on the town and a couple cocktails but I don't think I want any raw eggs in my drink. I can only imagine what your bar tab would look like after a few of these yolk-laced concoctions. Would you drink an egg cocktail? I'm going to pass on this one...

Ultimate Fighting Spreads To Kids

6-Year-Old Kids Join The Exploding 'Ultimate Fighting' Movement:

CARTHAGE, Mo. - Ultimate fighting was once the sole domain of burly men who beat each other bloody in anything-goes brawls on pay-per-view TV.

But the sport often derided as "human cockfighting" is branching out.

The bare-knuckle fights are now attracting competitors as young as 6 whose parents treat the sport as casually as wrestling, Little League or soccer.

Would you allow your child to participate in Ultimate Fighting?
