Miss Headscarf 2008 Controversy

As Expected, Not Everyone Is Happy With Miss Headscarf 2008:

Iraqi-born Huda Falah on Tuesday won the Miss Headscarf 2008 title in a competition staged by Danish public broadcaster DR, reported dpa.

Falah, 18, was one of 46 entrants in the competition that was open to anyone aged 15 or older.

"The royal blue headscarf makes a sharp contrast to her dark brown skin," said one of the two fashion judges, Muslim fashion commentator Helen Latif.

Co-judge and fashion expert Uffe Burchardt said Falah's headscarf had "a fantastic and stunning colour that really shows attitude and impact."

Kudos to Denmark for airing this even after the Danish cartoon controversy. The winner, Huda Falah picks up an iPod (no word on if it's one of the new ones announced yesterday) and the runners up get a subscription to Muslim Girl magazine. I wish I could tell you this whole thing is the run-up to some hilarious joke that I was working on but, as funny as it sounds, it's the truth.

Hillary Voter Can't Vote For 'Muslim'

A Hillary Clinton Supporter In West Virginia Explains Her Vote:

Between this and the folks in Indiana who wouldn't vote for Barack Obama because 'he's black' I don't know which disturbs me more.

'Honour Killing' Father Speaks Out

Iraqi Man Murders Daughter For Talking With British Soldier:

honor killing

The Iraqi father who brutally murdered his teenage daughter in an "honour killing" for befriending a British soldier in Basra has said that he has no regrets, and that death "was the least she deserved".

Abdel-Qader Ali boasted that he would have slaughtered his 17-year-old daughter Rand at birth if he had know of the shame she would bring on him and his family.

He proudly told how his two sons helped with the murder, bragging that they were "men enough to help me end the life of someone who had just brought shame to our lives."

More:

The 46-year-old father holds a key post in the Iraqi health ministry, and was quickly released from police custody following the murder because the officers who arrested him were full of praise for his actions.

Ali strangled and fatally stabbed his only daughter in March this year after a friend told him she had been seen speaking to the British soldier, whom she knew only as "Paul", at a local refugee charity in Basra where she worked as a volunteer.

This isn't a rare event in the Muslim world. In fact, it happens quite frequently. The details of this story are horrifying and the fact that this murderous man is still on the loose is enough to make me dizzy.

Check the wires yourself. There's nearly half-a-dozen stories on 'honour killings' in the last several weeks alone. The names and countries may change but one thing remains as a common bond between all of the stories, Islam.

Terrorists Get Early Release In UK

Due To Prison Overcrowding, Two Terrorists Go Free In England:

Two convicted terrorists have been released early under a controversial Government scheme to ease prison over-crowding, ministers have been forced to admit.

One is a radical muslim cleric - Yassin Nassari, 29 - who was caught trying to smuggle blueprints on how to build a missile into Britain.

As if Europe doesn't have enough problems related to the spread of radical Islam, now these two loons are on the loose. I'd like to believe this wouldn't fly in America but something tells me I'm wrong.

Controversial Doc 'FITNA' Now Online

Controversial Dutch Politician Geert Wilders' Film On Islam:

Right-wing Dutch politico Geert Wilders has finally found a home for his controversial anti-Islam short "Fitna" after video-sharing site LiveLeak allowed the 15-minute film to be posted online.

"Fitna," whose title is an Arabic word that can be translated as "strife" or "discord" and is usually used in a religious context, has been the subject of heated debate and protests ever since Wilders announced his plans to release it earlier this year.

Dutch TV broadcasters refused to air the film following vocal criticism from the Dutch government, forcing Wilders to take the online route.

The video was uploaded by Wilders himself. Let the debate continue.
