War Protesters Shut Down Ports

Dockworkers Protest War In Iraq, Shutdown West Coast Ports:

news junkie

Thousands of dockworkers at all 29 West Coast ports, including Los Angeles and Long Beach, took the day off work today in what their union called a protest of the war in Iraq, effectively shutting down operations at the busy complexes.

The action came two months before the contract expires between the dockworkers, represented by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, and the Pacific Maritime Assn., which represents port operators and large shippers, many of them foreign-owned.

"We are supporting the troops and telling politicians in Washington that it's time to end the war in Iraq," said union President Bob McEllrath.

It remains to be seen how many of these workers are simply enjoying a May Day vacation and how many are actually protesting the war in Iraq. Regardless, the protests are crushing the shipping industry on the West Coast today. Honestly, I say fire them all...

This particular meme makes me want to throw things. How do people who do this look at them selves in the mirror in the morning? You're going to support the troops by not sending them stuff to fight a war? I honestly cannot understand that line of thinking.

I'm with you, fire them all. Sounds like these are "jobs that Americans don't want to do" to me, so I've no doubt that there are thousands of "undocumented workers" that could take over in short order. And, as this guy is on his way out the door, how about a swift kick in the "twigs 'n' berries" for good measure?
