Rumor Mill: McCain VP Buzz

Heavy Buzz Today About Potential VP Choices For McCain:

That's right, Condoleezza Rice is a potential VP pick for McCain. According to the Washington Note, she's very interested. Would Condi be able to wrestle the black vote from Obama? Not likely but she's certainly an experienced Yin to McCain's Yang. Then again, according to another source, Condi isn't among the top choices for the job. A post at FITSNews claims to have seen McCain's top 5 list first-hand. Who's on that list you ask? Joe Lieberman, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn are the top choices.

Scratch Joe Lieberman off that list as he's on record saying he isn't interested. As for the other four, they're all solid choices. The odds on favorite at this point is Charlie Crist. A source close to the McCain campaign tells me that the Arizona Senator has already made his choice. Would you support a McCain/Crist ticket?

No I do not think that it would be wise for certain reasons I do not want to enclose. I think the most conservative Mitt Romney would be a good choice for VP. You would not want Charley Crist.

Strangely enough, McCain and Romney are on the road together today.... Is it a sign?

I think Condi would be an excelent choice. Se is experienced & smart. Few have her talent in forgein relations. Fewer still know more about the terrorist threat and the statagies to combat it. I agree that it would not sway many black votes or women voters that are supporting Hillary. But it would take some wind out of their sails regarding making history. She is much more deserving of that honor.

I'd love to see McCain choose Condoleeza Rice. She is eminently qualified. Over qualified, almost. And she is a black woman. Touche! It'd be nice to see the first black and first woman be elected to one of the two top national offices because she is massively qualified. That, friends, is how it should be.

I want him to choose Romney. And I dont like the idea of Crist.

I wanted Condi as a Presidential candidate. Failing that, I'd be very happy with her as VP. Among McCain's choices, she's my favorite.

Marsha Blackburn's name stands out to me. In picking a VP, McCain should steer clear of anyone who is "controversial." The less news a VP candidate makes, the better. I agree, Condi would be eminently qualified, but so would others, and the last thing McCain needs is a partner that detraacts from him.

Blackburn hits a number of key constituencies: women, Southerners, and conservatives. Add in the fact that she is very attractive, especially for her age, means that she'll be very photogenic.

She has no controversies, scandals, youtube moments, etc. and that is exactly what McCain needs -- someone who won't rock the boat...

To the idea that "She [Condoleezza Rice] is eminently qualified. Over qualified, almost."

Exposure to foreign policy (and foreign policy debacles) doesn't cut it - remember that her academic background was specifically in Soviet and post-Soviet affairs, and at least in the contemporary European area, relations with Russia have both eroded and become more significant. I'd rather have someone with some bold new ideas backed with extensive knowledge and ability to grasp big issues over a days-served tally as a measure of experience.

Condi Rice, who Weapons inspector David Kay clled the most incompetent National Security Advisor in history? The idiot who minimized the terror threat before 9-11? The idiot who steps off the plane in jack-boots only to be rebuffed everywhere she goes?

The media has given this incompetent Sec of State a complete pass on everything, but I don't.

Marsh Blackburn is a divisive, sard right southern Congresswoman from Tennesee, right? What is her claim to fame? That she is hittable? Not good enough. She brings absolutely nothing to the table except the right wing yahoo vote that McCain is going to get anyway. And she has no outstanding qualities, so whats the point?

As someone who supported McCain in 2000, I am going to vote Dem this time (even if I have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary), because of the influsence of the neocons on McCain. He has been cozying up to Bill Krystol and the rest of the discredited neocon bunch, and that is the worst possible situation for American foreign policy.

Rice is a lesbian and Crist is gay. I don't care about either of those things myself, but I guarantee your base isn't going to like it -- and that stuff is going to come out if either of those people is picked for VP. I guarantee it.

Governor Crist would be an excellent choice. He will solidly put Florida in the win column, is a tenacious campaigner and really connects with people. His record as a State Senator, Attorney General and now as Governor shows someone who knows how to respond for the people. He is an excellent choice.

The only hope I have for McCain is that he picks Mitt Romney or a Duncan Hunter type. Otherwise I am staying home or voting third party. I won't care who gets in otherwise because it won't matter. All the choices are going to be REAL bad for our country.

I would also prefer Mitt Romney. He's not the big conservative he's lately pretending to be, so he would fit nicely on the ticket with McCain, who is also a big moderate. Romney for VP.

Am torn between Republican and Democrat this year. Mitt Romney would be a refreshing compliment to McCain. He has better knowledge of the economy and health care issues and there wouldn't be any moral scandals in his past and present life. He and his entire family have deep values and personal integrity.

Romney or Condi.
All others are secondary and no carry-over recognition.
People vote for silly and shallow reasons. AND they vote for whom they know or have heard of.

Not Crist!!!
Condi or Mitt

I am reluctantly supporting McCain as it is, and will be less motivated by any on that "short list." None. I would be more supportive and less reluctant for McCain if he picked Romney or Condi Rice. McCain would be wise to pick on of these over anyone else in this particular contest. A Rice VP would be briliant--plus she would actually be a good VP and potential President in the future. But alas, McC hardly ever does anything I suggest anyway, despite my daughter having a picture with him.

Romney is the better choice for the VP slot...

I just do not understand how so many people who post here claim to know so much about so many people. I also do not understand why so many of you call these same people names and say such ugly things about them. I know some of you are misinformed because of the things I have read about Marsha Blackburn. She is very fine...I do not whether she is qualified to be VP but I also know nothing that would disqualify her. And, I would be willing to bet, that I know more about her than do you. Being pretty and smart are not negatives...

Romney knows about the economy? Yeah he and his cronys know how to bust it out. As a hundredmilliionaire Wall St investment banker, he knows how to make mone for him and his freinds at the expense of layingoff workers, closing divisions, selling off parts, etc.

Romney knows nothing about business on Main st, nor does he care.

As far as I'm concerned, Romney can go back to Paris France where he dodged the draft as a missionary pushing his religion to the French...what a joke.

Its sad to see that the state of the country is such that a flip-flopping draftdodging chickenhawk weasel is held in such high esteem by the Republican party.

Chuck Hagel is right. We do need a new political party.

Hammer111 does not have a clue about what he is talking about.
Indeed, we need someone in the White House who has served in the military. Otherwise, they will be clueless in Washington. Without personal military experience, they cannot lead this nation effectively.
Hammers111, you just got laidoff, sonny.

No way to Rice, if she is chosen I will vote Democrat Colin Powell is the most qualified and respected.

Are Rice and Christ really gay? Although I like them both, I think McCain needs to pick a solid Republican in order to get the conservatives to vote for him. As it is he's a Maverick.

I am voting for McCain.

If I had to pick Clinton or Obama, I'd go with Clinton. In this case, I don't trust either of them but I figure the evil that you know is better than the evil that you don't know.
